Volunteer

Girls on the Run of the Triangle serves hundreds of girls each year. With our small staff, we rely on volunteers to help us with many different aspects of our organization. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved at a variety of different times. Please take a look at our opportunities to determine what works best for your schedule.  We look forward to getting you involved!

GOTR Coach: Volunteer Coaches serve as role models and mentors for our many girls who participate in the GOTR programs around the Triangle. At each program location, 3 female coaches deliver the GOTR curriculum, twice a week for an hour and 15 mn to groups of no more than 15 girls. Coaches are not required to be runners, they simply must be passionate about the mission of Girls on the Run, committed to working with a group of girls throughout the 12 week season and able to bring energy and joy to each practice. More information on coach requirements can be found on the "Apply to Be a Coach" section to the left.
Fundraising/Event Planning Committee: The GOTR Fundraising Committee is charged with identifying and coordinating ways to generate income to support the mission and programming of Girls on the Run. The fundraising committee heads up our Girls and Guys Night In event (held this year at A Southern Season).  They  also help secure community business support through events hosted by businesses like Aveda or California Pizza Kitchen, where a portion of the proceeds from the event come back to Girls on the Run. Volunteers are needed who are creative and are willing to reach out to their personal and professional networks for support. Fundraising committee volunteers also participate in organizing and executing the events. The committee meets every other month and requires involvement in the charity events. Contact Danielle Irwin at danielle@gotrtriangle.org to get involved.
Spring 5k Committee: The Annual New Balance Girls on the Run Spring 5k, scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2012 at American Tobacco Campus, is our biggest event of the year. This event is the culmination of our spring programming where the girls, along with over 1,000 other community participants, are cheered across the finish line and congratulated for meeting their personal and physical goals.
The event takes a great deal of person power to complete. We seek volunteers in the following areas: Marketing, Sponsorships, Family Festival, Registration and Packet Pick up, Volunteer Coordination, and Race Course logistics. The 5k committee will meet monthly between November and January and will begin to meet more often from February through end of April. Contact Juliellen Simpson-Vos at Juliellen@gotrtriangle.org to get involved.
One Time Volunteer Opportunity: We always need help with one-time events. You might want to staff a water station at a 5k we partner with, represent GOTR at a local event or expo, help assemble race materials, or lend a hand in our office with data entry or organizing projects. This is a great position for those who don't have time to coach or attend regular committee meetings, but still want to be involved in GOTR. Contact Danielle Irwin at danielle@gotrtriangle.org to get involved.
